7 Questions with Samantha Day
What’s your show about?
Boobs! Why are we so obsessed with them? And are the media right? Are boobs more important than climate change? To find out, we go back in time. We become the tit time team together. And we make some exciting discoveries. And. At the end of the show, there is a high octane finale with a prize to be won!
What’s the edgiest topic in your show?
Older women - they aren't fuckable, they can’t reproduce …. So why are they still here??? With their annoying opinions. I will tell you why.
Who are your comedy heroes?
"The thick of it” is my favourite comedy show. I love seeing the lengths that human beings will go to to cover up their awfulness. I don’t bother covering my awfulness anymore, and my comedy is so much better for it.
In an unfashionable choice, I also like Ricky Gervais. He’s derided by some of the comedy community, but I think The Office and Extras are particularly brilliant. And I love the fact that he voices his opinions - whether I agree with them or not is irrelevant.
What excites you about the Edinburgh Fringe?
The being with other comedians for a few weeks - all together in this pretty intense place. The “bootcamp” nature of it - I came back from last year’s fringe a much better comedian. I’m hoping the same will happen again.
I’m also excited to do my show - it’s taken months of work to put it together, preview it, refine it - and I’m really proud of it now. It’s unique and I want people to see it.
What scares you about the Edinburgh Fringe?
The many random things which could go wrong. Have I made a mistake staying 5 miles outside the city in order to save money? Will I find somewhere to store my props? That kind of nonsense.
If you could wave a magic wand and revolutionise the Fringe, what would it be like?
It would be in Oxfordshire, where I live. Fucking Edinburgh is miles away.
Who’s show would you recommend and why?
Eric Rushton - Not That Deep. He’s just won an award on Channel 4 and rightly so. He’s really good.
